About Robert Rhead

Hello — I’m Robert Rhead, a freelance UX designer, accessibility specialist based in South Lanarkshire, within easy reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

I’ve been designing and building for the web since the early days of the internet, working with clients locally and remotely across the UK, Europe, and the USA. Over the years I’ve helped small and mid-sized businesses, charities, and organisations create digital experiences that are intuitive, inclusive, and genuinely useful.

My work spans the full spectrum of modern design and development — UX and UI design, interaction design, visual design, front-end development, CMS implementation (particularly Drupal), server and hosting management, and digital accessibility. This broad foundation means I can take a project from idea to launch with clarity, consistency, and craft.

For the past 10 years I’ve led UX and accessibility work for some of the UK’s largest financial institutions — including Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland, Scottish Widows, Halifax, MBNA, and Bank of America — bringing data-driven design, WCAG-aligned accessibility standards, and measurable UX improvements to complex products and services.

I originally trained as a graphic designer at Shillington Design College in Manchester, a discipline that continues to shape my visual approach and attention to detail.

Outside of UX, I’m an experienced photographer specialising in landscape, portrait, and product photography. I’ve also served as a judge for one of the world’s largest international photography competition platforms.

As part of my ongoing professional development, I’ve completed specialist accessibility training with Hassell Inclusion, deepening my expertise in accessibility testing and inclusive design.
